Is your stairlift not operating?

View our 5 Step Guide

Often when a stairlift breaks down, it is something straightforward that you might have overlooked. In many instances, it’s likely a simple issue with the power.

It’s not unheard of! Sometimes (rarely!) stairlifts can break down. A lot of the time, it’s something minor and can easily be fixed. It isn’t usually a cause for concern when a stairlift breaks down, but we understand that it can be frustrating, mainly if you rely on your stairlift to move around your house.

Here are some of TPG Disable Aids tips on what to do if you find yourself with a broken down stairlift.

Step 1
Make sure your stairlift is plugged in & switched on.

Step 2
If you are using a remote control to use your stairlift, check that it is fully charged or that the batteries in it are working.

Step 3

Are you using the correct power supply? Low power is often the cause of that beeping noise you sometimes hear when a stairlift breaks down.

Step 4

Check nothing is obstructing the stairlift. Stairlifts have sensors for your safety & security. If a sensor is blocked or something is blocking the way, the stairlift will stop short of it to ensure that nothing gets stuck in the mechanism.

Step 5

Cleaning & Servicing! Sometimes a build-up of dust can trigger the sensor, so if there is nothing evident in the way, and then it might be that you need to wipe down or a good dusting.
